Book of the Month

I recently finished The Rent Collector by Camron Wright.  It was such a great book.  Nothing like anything I have ever read before.  It was so nice to read a book from such a different perspective.  I highly recommend it!

The Christmas Sweater

I just finished 'The Christmas Sweater' by Glenn Beck.  I loved it.  It was very touching and helped get me in the Christmas mood.
I actually bought the audiobook on itunes and listened to it on my nano while I frosted cookies.  I LOVE technology!  Besides, it was much better listening to him read it - he is a great story teller.
Just thought I would pass that along!  Happy reading (or listening)!

Book of a Thousand Days

I just finished another book by Shannon Hale (Austenland).   I love the main character in this story.  If you are looking for a good, easy read this summer, I recommend this one.

Book of the Week

I have been asked what happened to the 'book of the week'. Well, my friend Jen, wrote a 500 page book, and I was lucky enough to do some editing for her. It took me over a month to get through it. (I think she will be famous someday!)

Anyway, here's a book for you. Life of Pi, by Yann Martel. This is an incredible story of a man who's ship goes down in the middle of the ocean, and he is stuck on a life boat with a tiger. I have never read anything like it. The end is a kicker. It really throws you and makes you want to go back and figure it all out again. Don't worry, I didn't give anything away.

I have heard from others that they thought the beginning was slow (I didn't think so). Stick it out - it's well worth it!

Happy reading!

Book of the Week

One of my favorite books of all time is A Tale of Two Cities. I don't know why I picked it up - maybe it was because I kept hearing it quoted in conference.

It is a beautiful story of true sacrifice. I remember being so touched by this book. The very end is the pay off, so if you read it, stick it out.
You can get it here for $ .75.

Book of the Week

A Return to Modesty by Wendy Shalit. In this book, she talks about the lost virtue - modesty, and how with it, women have the power. A very interesting take on the subject - I highly recommend it! You can get it here.

Book of the Week

The Boxcar Children was one of my favorite books as a child. Sammi just finished it and liked it as well. This is a great read for elementary age kids. I also read it out loud to my 5 year old.
This is a series, but I liked the 1st one the best. Happy reading!
You can get it here for cheap!

My pick for the week is definitely Eclipse by Stephanie Meyer. It is the third book of the love story between Bella and Edward the vampire.
I know, I know - vampire? What can I say? I loved it!

Book of the Week

THE GREAT BRAIN
This is one of my favorite series of children's books by John D. Fitzgerald. There are 8 books in all. If you have kids, this is a must read! I just finished reading the first book with my kids and they can't wait to start the 2nd. You will love the stories about 2 Catholic brothers growing up in Mormon Utah. It is out of print but you can still get them here.

This book reads like a novel. If you like history, you will love this book. It made me so grateful to live in a time when I get to pick my own husband. Definitely a good read!

Book of the Week

If you are one of those that started the Harry Potter series but haven't finished, well hurry up!
I loved the 7th and last book. JK Rowling did and excellent job of wrapping it up. For those of you who have read it...what did you think?

Book of the Week

Ella Enchanted
What is it with me and young adult fiction lately...?

But I really love this book!

As always, it is sooooo much better than the movie and quite different too.

If you have a girl age 6 and up, this is a must read. My 11 year has read it twice!! (okay so have I)

You can get it here.
Happy reading!

Book of the Week

Jeannette Walls tells her true story of her childhood. It was very heartbreaking, touching, and just amazing.

After reading about her family, you find yourself thinking, "Wow, I had it pretty good. My family is pretty normal after all."

You can buy it here for cheap!

Happy reading!

Book of the Week

Actually, I have 2 books I recommend.
"Twilight" and the sequel,
"New Moon".

These are technically "young adult" books, but I couldn't help but really like them.

It is a dark romance that reminds you of high school boyfriends and butterflies in your stomach.

I laugh now that I have read them, that I was so caught up in the story, but the author did a good job of reeling you in!

These are good no-brainer reads that don't make you think to much!
You can get them here.

Happy reading!
